Make a good backup plan, use it. Double check it. Use it. Did I remind you do actually use your backup plan and make regular backups of your data in a sensible manner!

More than 1 copy.

More than 1 media.

Offsite copies.

Don't back up installed programs.

Segregate your data.

Segregate small commonly updated data segments, ie: your Excel and Word documents vs your photo and music library.

Be intelligent and you'll never need such data recovery services.
