I had an Excel file opened and by accident I entered new data and instead of clicking "Save As" I clicked on "Save". How do I recover the old file?

Try this ExcelFIX, it can extract text, numbers, formulas and formats from damaged files.

As long as you clicked on "save" and did not delete the file before you accidentally created a new file, rest assured that your file is there. Look at your "My Documents" and find that particular file there. If you can't find it, click on "Start on the left bottom corner of your computer then click on "Search". On "Search" click on "find file on folders including sub folders and type any word or words that is written on that document then "click on "Search" botton. After the computer done searching, a message will pop up on your screen whether it was able to find the file or not.

I never thought that there is actually a method to recover an excel file. I also did the same mistake and got really devastated. I have to do the old file once again and it consumes lots of my precious time. But in case that this accident happens again, I would surely go for your suggestions. I will sure to recover my excel file which is not saved properly. Thanks a lot.

Same here Tiara. I also had the same mistake and the sad part is I lost my job because of that stupidity of mine. I am no computer expert and also not that good in some of the computer applications but I can say that I have a little back ground in computers making me able to use the net for work. But all in all I must say that it is important to constantly saving a file minute per minute if possible.

That is why it is important to be very careful when handling things at the computer. I also happen to suffer when I save a wrong file and over write our group project, my group mates really got mad at me and there is nothing left to do but to redo our project, it is really a tragedy. Have a great day people and kindly post all of those post coming here. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
