Do you encrypt any of your files on your computer? I think it is a good idea so that if you lose or your computer gets stolen then thief doesn't get your data too!I found encfs on linux to be very easy to use and effective. It's great for backups too. Keeps the nosy people out and doesn't interfere with using your computer.

The only issue with encrypting your files is you slow the performance of the computer. So its really only a good idea to be encrypting the files that you really dont want people to see.In the most common of people there is very little need to encrypt data. but for all those that do and are not on Linux, PGP, and TrueCrypt are very good options There are of course plenty of others out there if your willing to look around the web a while. I would disagree. The speed of today's computers should have the encryption speed a non-issue for most users.Consider all the personal details that might be on your computer... passwords... bank account numbers... scans of your documents... photos of your family... Do you want those in the hands of a criminal? Additionally, if just a few things are encrypted they might appear to be super important and therefore a target. Encrypt everything and make sure your backups are encrypted too.
