Identity theft is a skyrocketing crime. Without protection, Americans are at high risk of identity theft in the near future.

These crooks aren't just opening up credit card accounts under your name. They're also abusing your utility services, using counterfeit checks, making ATM electronic withdrawals, taking out a loan, getting your driver's license with their own picture, obtain government benefits, and the list goes on.

Damages Cost From Hundreds to Thousands of Dollars

Money isn't the only thing you'll be losing from these unfortunate circumstances. Other potential losses include loss of employment, rejection for loans, and also the possibility of being arrested for a crime you didn't commit.

Identity theft, depending on the type of theft that takes place, could take years to repair. Most Americans don't notice their compromised identity until it's too late, and it's important to educate yourself on the different warning signals your identity is stolen.

Warning Signals of Identity Theft

There are many warning signs to tell you your identity has been stolen, but there are a few more common ones we'll list.

- denied credit or loans for no apparant reason

- monthly credit card statements, utility bills, etc. stop arriving

- receive a credit card you did not apply for

- receive bills from places you never spent at to; receive bills from the collection agency

- you notice some of your mail is missing

Please don't do that. It's embarrassing!

It's believed the crime of Identity Theft occurs every 7.2 seconds. No one knows for sure because it's still an under-documented crime.

One reason is the victim may be unwilling to admit he or she was “fooled” by a criminal. What's also amazing is that a number of people don't even know their identities have been stolen in the first place...until it's too late!

You can decrease the chance of becoming a victim by being proactive! There's always more to learn. Stay tuned...
