Credit Card Calls

Suzie from Washington DC -

In the area I live in, some elderly people have getting calls from "Government Assisstance" saying they are going to add 100.00 in assitance money to their credit card. Then the person on the other line takes the credit card info and charges 100.00 to the card. This was just in the news yesterday, so you may want to give your elderly family members a heads up.

Comment #1 Milly from Wisconsin -

It's terrible how these places take advantage of the elderly. Their chances of getting the money is pretty good, considering how trusting the elderly can be. We need people who know older people to go around and let them know about these scum.

Comment #2 Lana from The Dental Office -

We used to also have calls that people were saying they were trying to get donations for I think policemen or state troopers and it was a scam. It happens. Just be very careful, and ask a lot of questions too.

Comment #3 Sweetness from Earth, the Universe -

Yes these scumbags seem to think the elderly are easy targets and because of their trusting nature having grown up in a different time the scumbags are usually right and get away with it.

There are just sooooooooo many scams directed at them it would be difficult to cover them all in a very quick way.

The only way I can see is to have someone travel around the community centres that whold bingo and such for the elderly and give talks and hand out pamphlets but you will probably never see that done en masse.

It's a very unfortunate thing that the people that built this country are getting bilked every day of the year somewhere. Sad comment for our NOW society.

Thats awful!! It is so cruel to do this to someone!! I think people take advantedge of the fact that the elderly come from a world that is totally different than the one we live in now.

Comment #5 PATRICK from HOUSTON, TEXAS -

These are the worse criminals ever!!! They prey on the elderly. And take advantage of them. These criminals need a dark hole to crawl in and rot away. One day they will be old also. somebody will do the same to them.

Yes, I do agree, alot of people target older people, espcialy with the newspaper and fony ads....
