Do You Know Someone

Sweetness from Earth, the Universe -

Have you, or do you know of someone whose identity was stolen. If so tell us about what happened and what lead up to it.

Also tell us the process they had to go through to get it straightened out and if they ever got out of debt after it was over and done.

Would be very interesting to see how it happened and would also help in preventing it from happening to others.

I know that I would certainly make a list of what to avoid and how to fix it if I hear of someone in the future that is going through it.

I think you'll find that in the past nearly 100% of id theft cases the thief was "close" to the victim. "close" as in having easy physical access to information of the victim. employees, housekeepers, family members, etc.

That trend I think is lessening... or at least "close" is being redefined.

I don't know anybody, but did anyone see that episode where Montel [i think it was montel] did a show on people whose identity was stolen for various reasons? There was this one guy who found out that her father used his identity for various things for years and RUINED his credit. He didn't find out until he tried to go to college and they told him that his credit was bad.

There was one girl as well whose mom used her identity for something, i can't remember what exaclty but she then ruined her credit. But ended up admitting to the error and went to jail for it and seems to feel horrible about it and even went on montel to warn people to not make the same mistakes as she did.
