Protests Against ID Cards

... (RSS Feed) -

Its an unavoidable fact that technology has crept into every aspect of our day-to-day lives. So it is no big deal that the U.K government wants to issue identity cards that will carry biometric and other personal information about the..

I believe that the more "secure" an id card is "made" the most it will be taken for granted and therefore the easier it will be for someone to manipulate the system.

A guard will simply take for granted that all it A-OK when the "ID SYSTEM" gives an OK. The guard will then be relived of any use of his human intellect. In an absurd example one might look completely different than the photo on an ID card (different race, different sex, etc). However, the system says they are the correct person -- and who can argue with a computer!

Comment #2 Moe from Vancouver, Canada -

Good point Joe, the computer IS wrong sometimes!! I am not sure how I feel about identity cards having all these information in the first place, what if the wrong person came across the card and has access to all these information about the individual? What happens then?

Comment #3 Elroy from New York -

Of course every time you use the card in a store or for another transaction all of the pertient data is usually copied and made available for who knows who!

I have to agree with what everyone else has said, and I wouldnt want to use a card that has all my information right on it for the world to see.

Comment #5 snowbird (1) from The North -

I would have to agree too. I would hate to have to carry a card around with me and accidently lose it. I'm pretty careless that way.

Comment #6 PATRICK from HOUSTON, TEXAS -

I have mixed feelings on this subject. You can find anything on anybody on the net. What’s the difference? If you get into an accident and you can’t talk your identification would have all of your medical information. Think about it. What about if you are a diabetic and you pass out at the local store. Who will tell the paramedic that you are diabetic? I’m sure it can and will be abused but I see a lot of good coming out of it.

Comment #7 Delino from California -

Our lives are becoming like open books. If somebody has the smallest amount of information about you they can pretty much get everything else. I don't see a way of avoiding this, but it does sound scary.

Comment #8 Tara from Somewhere cold -

I agree. It's bad enough that you can get someone's whole life info just because they have a listed telephone number. Unfortunately I don't think that there is a way that we can get around this. It is what it is.
