| Western Union?! You Gotta Be Kiddin Me! This is news to me. Apparently, Western Union customer service (if thats what you wanna call it) employees have the ability to confirm your identity somehow with nothing but your name and the last four digits of your social security number. Now, considering that most likey at least dome of their customer service is outsourced to foreign countries for cheaper labor, this makes me very nervous! I had to receive a top secret security clearance from the US Government to be able to verify peoples idently as a federal agent and I highly doubt these Western Union employees are subjected to the same scrutiny. Is it possible I'm being paranoid here? Maybe. The fact still remains that these people have this ability and can therefore obtain plenty of information to sell to the highest bidder. Especially if they are base in some foreign country. I mean, how many times have you call customner service for some huge company and gotten some thick accented person based in India or similar? |
| "Only Western Union???"
Do you think Western Union is the only company that outsources customer service that involves sensitive data? But, I think really anyone can pay a few bucks for a database search that would return full names, addresses and SSNs. I haven't looked in years... but I bet a google search would turn up hundreds or thousands of companies selling that info to anyone... |
