'Good proxy servers'

We are currently working on an application that polls various sites on a regular basis. We want to remain anonymous so I was considering using a proxy server. Are there any recommended free proxy services?

You want to use a proxy website to gain some type of privacy or anonominity. What if the proxy site you use preforms the proxy function, but also records your data? Or alters it in some way?

Many also give your IP to the server you connect to via the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR environment variable.
