We are currently working on an application that polls various sites on a regular basis. We want to remain anonymous so I was considering using a proxy server. Are there any recommended free proxy services?

You want to use a proxy website to gain some type of privacy or anonominity. What if the proxy site you use preforms the proxy function, but also records your data? Or alters it in some way?

Many also give your IP to the server you connect to via the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR environment variable.

We use a vpn to secure connectivity - this eliminates the need to expose internal systems to the whole wide world. Related to topic- proxy

I personally believe VPN technology is much more secure and reliable than using open public proxies. That is why I use their services so you can browse, download and upload files, connect to your business, visit leisure sites - do anything whatever you need to do in privacy.

A VPN offers many advantages over a Proxy. But your information is still flowing through a 3rd party system which could be open to interception.

According to Anonymous-Proxy-Server Private Policy they collect no logs or customer data beyond what is required for performance tuning and security monitoring of our servers. This data does not have any information, which can identify a customer or customers' personal usage and Internet activities conducted. Any such data is analyzed only statistically, and is destroyed soon thereafter.

I am not a great computer person but I need to be. I am in China and am rapidly going insane as I am unable to reach the outside world. Every site I try is stopped and I really would like to be able to access my friends and family other than purely by email.

Can anyone help?

I had the Hotspot shield and have been trying to get Freegate but currently I am right up against the wall.

Hopefully I'll be able to get back to this site to find an answer.
