"The answer is no.. but..."
You computer is assigned an IP address by your internet provider. It rare someone gets a static IP address, ie: one that doesn't change. Usually you get a new (different) IP every time you connect, or maybe every 12 hours. Depends in your ISP.Plus having your IP doesn't allow a normal person to spy on you, only "connect" to your computer and unless there is a spy program to connect to, then "connecting" to your computer won't have any effect, ie: access to information. Additionally, if you use a DSL router and have it configured properly, it will block any such income connections. Now, if you ask a different question, for example, if you asked: "Could a family member, or anyone else that might sit in front of my computer be able to install spyware to track me?" Now the answer is completely different and is a resounding: YES. You should never allow anyone to use your computer for any reason. Especially not to "just check email for a minute". You never know if they will download a virus by accident, or intentionally install spyware. |
