Orbitz and Caravan Motel Release Credit Card Information

The reservation form asked if I was making the reservation for myself or someone else. I selected the someone else option and was prompted for both the guest's name and my name as the credit card holder.

.

.

.

The Caravan Motel was nice enough to give out my full credit card number and expiration date to the guest who was clearly specified as not being the card holder on the reservation.

When was their credit card terminal manufactured?

Thank author of this post/commentWOW!!!! I can't believe that any company would do that. Did you talk to them about what they did? What did they use as an excuse for doing that.

It is totally against the law to give out other's credit information to anyone. I would sue the pants off them. I certainly hope you called your credit card company and asked them for a new card.

Thank author of this post/commentGood luck getting any help from Orbitz or anyone else. If you don't receive a call within minutes, you aren't going to get anywhere most of the time. I am sure the Orbitz representative will just think you will brush it under the rug.

Thank author of this post/commentIt's such a pain to have to cut this card and get another one. We trust these people that we give our credit cards too. And we trust that they dont do stupid things like this. Hope you got it all sorted out.

Thank author of this post/commentWith thingslike theese, now days you can not ever release your credit card info

Thank author of this post/commentI would be so mad!! They have no right to do that and You would certainly think that they wouldn't have. I am curious as to what they said when you brought this matter to their attention?

Thank author of this post/commentAre they crazy people or what? Was it all intentional or a big flaw in the whole system? I appreciate that you noted this thing early otherwise most of the time in a hurry we tend to overlook these mistakes.

Thank author of this post/commentOne reason I do not like to order online very much. Too easy for people to get into your account.

right there!!!
Thank author of this post/commentWOW, that’s crazy!! I know it was a friend that got your information, but what if I called and said that I was him, would they give it to me? Just crazy!!!

You have to be so careful these days with your credit card. They had no right doing that but you would not believe the crazy things business do with your credit card. For example, my husband and I recently went to a restaurant that we eat at pry once a month. We never really paid attention to the slip once we signed it and gave it back to the waiter. Then one day our bank statement came in, and I saw that it said we spent $20 more than what we really did, and what happened was on the slip where you can leave a tip, we did not write anything in, cause we left him a cash tip on the table and the waiter took it upon himself to write in a $20 tip after we had signed the slip, and there was nothing we could do about it, but now we have learned to ALWAYS draw a line through the tip box area.

Thank author of this post/commentYou should still dispute it with the credit card company... that will alert the management at the restaurant to what is going on.

If $20 was an excessive tip you might just succeed with your complaint... ie: if the bill was $10 with a $20 tip. Of course if the bill was $200 it might be a bit different.

You can also explain what happened to the restaurant manager and the better business bureau.

moy

That was very risky of them. Nowadays you have to be careful with whatever information you disclose. It is unfortunate that the management treaded on such slippery ground.

I am curious to know what steps you took and whether you have replaced your card yet. I would not easily disclose my information online because there seems not to be enough privacy. It depends on whether suing them would be feasible.

#14

Nini

The internet is the riskiest place ever, do not disclose any vital information via the internet for you might be a victim of identity theft or your bank account could even be hacked. That all are so much possible this days where hackers seems to be having all the means to penetrate computers.

have to agree with you moy, just hoping that nobody else got victimized by this scams over the net.

#15

Chiqui

I have to agree with that matter Nini, there is no place in the net that you can be assure that your identity is safe. Despite that IP addresses can now be played on and be fooled around, you still have no privacy at all, mostly from hackers that are everywhere in the net.

I just want to know if there are ways to be private even for a slightest chance in the net.

#16

Nomer

Yeah, even the ip addresses can now be played upon and you might be reading a wrong ip address.

But we are now living with the modern technology and we cannot for some reasons prevent those issues over privacy to just stop. I do not know why there are so many people who just goes out of border and invades the privacy of others.

Guess we just have to get used to this trend.

Eve

The system is simply built, or designed, preferably, for the reasons that they are very much familiar with and we will never know until has come to light. This is why banks and credit card companies and so forth, can easily get away with fraud, but the average man could never. The design is made in such a way trying to keep us, none the wiser.

#18

Antonette

Have to agree with that eve.

I just want to know how to be very secure in the net. or is it still possible to not be invaded at all considering lots of hackers are everywhere?

Hoping for a nice and informative response

#19

Eve

I do not have a response concerning that Antonette, except for teh fact that many a hacker, even, are looking for ways to avoid other hackers from breaching the privacy of others. Sadly, it is an endless cycle that no one may ever see desist.

Thank author of this post/comment"Can't Trust Anybody"

That's the problem with identity theft. You can take every precaution to protect your credit and then some idiot at a motel releases your information. That's why I use a credit monitoring service instead of a company that employs fraud alerts like lifelock.

There's no way lifelock could prevent what happened to you. At least with a company like Identity Guard you'd know right away something was wrong. Here's a good review on what it does.

#21

Eve

Certainly, trust is something that we take into consideration quite often when we think a bout daily situations and circumstances. Identity theft is so very easy to come by that it is becoming something that one cannot escape in this place.

#22

Eve

How can we really be very much safe when on the net, for real? It is becoming increasingly harder for one to be safe while perusing even the simplest of things, such as their very own e-mail and so on.

#23

Bee Gs

I have to agree on that Eve, guess there are no safe place on earth nowadays, even the internet is not safe anymore. So better make sure that you not confess all those important information about you to prevent some bad things to happen. Prevention is the way to go go go!

Have a good day guys and enjoy each day of your life.

adam

Most definitely my friends, there is simply no where that is safe anymore in the planet earth. Not even on the world wide web. There are so many spiders that are crawling through the net that it is hard for us all to figure out the best approach towards ridding ourselves of the nuisance.
