google+ privacy...how do I remain as anonymous as I can?

I have enjoyed Google Latitude with a few of my select friends and family for some time now. It has helped me know where everyone is...but recently Google has required that one must sign up for Google+ in order to use Latitude.

I have avoided Google+ because i do not want to have a public searchable profile on he web...and want to limit social interaction on these kinds of websites. I have too many friends and it requires too much time and pressure.

Question: how do I sign up for google+ and remain as close to 100% private/hidden as possible? (So that i can use latitude for 2-3 friends and family)
