Best Brand of Computer?

shaun from nova scotia -

I'm thinking of finally giving up on my Dell computer that I got in 2003, and buying a completely new and different computer. Does anybody have any suggestions of what type I should get? What's your preference, and why?

Comment #1 Elroy from New York -

For desktops: CLONE. I would never buy a brand name desktop. I would make sure it used serial ATA drives. I would probably add a hot swap ATA chasis to change drives for backups (and/or different operating systems).

For laptops: Ashton Digital, Toshiba would be my first choice. After that I would try and see which ones stay the closest to plain ole windows (ie: the fewest crappy programs and configuration stuff loaded). Also regardless of brand I would check and make sure Linux and/or FreeBSD would load.

We have a Sony Vaio that has been perfect for us. We mostly use it for recreational usage. We have not had one problem. Make sure to get a warranty on whatever you decide to get. I would not recommend a Dell just because most customer service has to be done over the phone.

Comment #3 Jess from New York -

I hate Dell tech support, but I'm still going to stick with them. The machines are quality and I just don't see anything better. I'm not a Mac person so I don't want to go for Apple. Building your own is great if it's a desktop (don't know anyone that's built a laptop) and you have the time.

First, read what the message is about and then make a relevant comment.

So, with your current level of intellect, you cannot apply to "our" company!

Victor... what the heck does that have to do with the best brand of computer? Why not post a new message with something interesting to say about DataTriage?
