Could they have still gotten this information?

Thank author of this post/commentRecently I received a phishing email that pretended to be my bank account. I tried logging in using their URL so I know they got my login info, but then they asked for more info like my checking account number, my ssn, check card number, etc. I typed everything into the boxes but then realized it was a phishing site so I left it without clicking "enter" or "submit". Could they somehow still have gotten that information?

Thank author of this post/comment"Short answer: yes"

The short answer is yes. The long answer is probably not.

Do you know what "auto complete" is when you do a good (or some other searches). You type in few letters and a list of possible options pop up? That works because the system reads every letter you type and when you pause for a moment send them to the Google and Google returns the list of matching phrases.

That works in real time (well, a second or two delay), so if you backspace or type more it updates the list. It would also be possible for a website to send each letter you typed, as you typed it to the server.

I suspect most phishing pages are very simplistic though and use the standard form submission features which don't send anything to the service until you submit the entire form.

Someone could do a view source on the phishing page to see what technique(s) they are using.
