I once read a report discussing how cell phone providers are able to assess the location of each user based on the cell they are communicating from. The article went on to say that they were considering using this information in marketing campaigns based on the shopping localities in the user's area. Crazy privacy implications with this one!

This is not a bad thing. What they do is triangulate you position off of the cell phone towers. This helps 911 operators to locate you in case of an emergency. You can turn this off at your cell. There is an option in the setup menu.

What chance is there of having GPS technology installed right into your cellphone? Would be fantastically useful when one is lost!

yeah it does help out alot when you have to make emergency phone calls.. i have had to dial 911 when i was atleast 100 miles away from my cell area and the call went right to the local police to where i was..
