Skype

Plums from the thrush tree -

Are calls using skype automatically encrypted? These days there seem to be upwards of 5 million people online using skype at any one time which is mind-boggling! How easy, I wonder would it be to listen in on any of them?

Comment #1 Conyngham from the windy city -

I seem to recall seeing that they are encrypted, which would make sense. Did you know that Gmail have their own Google Talk which is very simple to use and is integrated into their email program. It is excellent and works like a dream.

Comment #2 Keter from the garage door -

I have heard that one can even select to have one's call recorded although I have never personally seen such an option. If this were the case it would also be a real security risk in that the conversations are then available to anyone with access to the computer. It is hardly likely that they would be saved in an encrypted form

I have heard of the Google talk but have neber checked it out. I however have my doubts about whether you choose whether or not someone listens into our conversations. In any case what is yours is supposed to be just that, private!

I ran through a certain website and according to a new report, Skype-to-Skype calls, chats and other communications are end-to-end encrypted. Skype uses standards-based methods and a sound design to secure its users, software and system, and does what it says is secure. Follow this link for more info or simply google the question, 'Is Skype encrypted?'
