Never put DL# on your checks

Kyndra from Somewhere Out There -

I have heard on tv that we should not put our Drivers Liscence numbers on our checks. Most places, however, will not accept a check unless you put your liscence # on it. Ironic don't you think.

Comment #1 Martin from Kansas -

Many places verify your check transaction by sending your checking account number (from your check) and your DL # to a central reporting databases.

Now, if someone steals your checks (but not your drivers license) they wouldn't be able to provide all the correct information (unless you so nicely has your DL # imprinted on your checks already).

Once you write your DL # on your check, it isn't likely someone will steal that check and try to use it.

They also want your DL # to track you down if the check bounces.
