Tagging People in the Real World

Jim (63.176.159.107) -

"This post presents an ubiquitous, passive method for tagging people in the real world with attributes that describe them (e.g. good, fun, smart, interesting, psycho, unreliable, untrustworthy, etc.. you get the idea) such that people can see how someone they've just met has been defined (or categorized) by others.

People will be able to make better choices about whom to associate with and whom to trust, in a real world setting. It allows the Web 2.0 "social networking" paradigm, which is currently confined to the Web, to be experienced in the real world."

...

"Take a shot of someone's face, add their name (optional) and tag them with words that describe them. Click send and the image and tags will be sent to a central database."

Let's start by tagging you, Jim.

Comment #2 Moe from Vancouver, Canada -

Wow that's really interesting. Now i have to go look and see if anybody I know is on there.. Left alone MYSELF!

Comment #3 RiverQueen from Joisey, on the Continent -

That is totally insane. Why would people want to tag others on the net. I mean I've heard of morphing faces to bodies and making like they are strip queens or tramps but the people that do this are totally sick in the head and anyone who believes what they see are just a sick.

I have no time for sickos and if someone thinks they can do that to upset me... they are in for a rude awakening.

I will hunt them down and skin them alive. Me upset about it NAHHHHHHHHHHH!..... As a matter of fact it would probably provide spice for a very mundane lifestyle.... LOL

Comment #4 Moe from Vancouver, Canada -

Hmm i don't know if people who use that program would be sick. I mean it could be useful if the person was a bad person. You could search them up on this site and find out what other people have said about him. It could be a good warning system. But people will probably use it as a joke so kind of hard to tell.

BTW: the link isn't working?

I would imagine more people would use it as a way to "get back" at someone they don't like. You could never believe what you read on there because it could just be vindictiveness. Can you imagine if you break off with your girlfriend or boyfriend and they put you on the list with some nasty statements about you. Your reputation could be totally smeared by someone with a vengence.

I think that this is a sick idea as well.

Comment #6 peekaboo from from my desk! -

I wish the link was working. Im curious to read about the post and what others are referring to.

Comment #7 snowbird (1) from The North -

Person must have gotten flack about it, cause I dont' see the post either! It does go to show though, that you can't trust people that you don't really know.

Comment #8 Sweetness from Earth, the Universe -

A lot of the time you can't trust people you only know as acquaintences. You don't know really what they do in their spare time.

Just be cautious about what you allow them to know about you. Remember that the guy next door "was always a great person" until they found out he was a serial killer, or a child molester. He looked just like you and me.

Keep that in mind when you divulge things to anyone incuding those you consider "friends" not close friends but acquaintance friends.

You would be amazed at what a simple statement can lead to. I was in sales and went to Ontario Hydro to sell to the purchasing agent. I said my this place looks so much bigger than when I see it from my balcony. He asked where I lived I said Eglinton and Markham area which has mucho apartment buildings.

Little did I know that he would go to the area and into each apartment building and look down the directory until he found my name. All of a sudden I had a Christmas card from him and I layed into the people at work for giving out my address. They all swore to me that they hadn't done it. Two days before Christmas he showed up at my door with a "gift" bottle of whiskey. I asked him how the hell he found out where I lived and he said he would never tell. I said "so what are you getting your WIFE and KIDS for Christmas which made him back off and I never saw him at my door again.

After Christmas I went back on a sales call and that's when he told me how he found me. So you see an innocent comment lead to a near disaster.

So be careful out there whatever you do or say.

I fixed the link.

The post was never pulled from the blog.

I must have changed the URL at one time.

Think about the idea but don't take it to mean that I endorse it.

If it can be done it will be done... by someone. I'm just raising awareness that it is likely that something like this will be made by someone in the near future.

I personally think that this is stupid. Why would you want to waste your time on doing this? I guess I’m old fashioned. I like to meet somebody and use my impressions to judge them.
