RFID Jammers

I saw a web page bragging about their RFID tags operating at 125khz.

What would happen if someone started cranking out RF on the RFID operating frequency? How much power and how close would one need to be to shut down a reader? Could you sit outside a RFID enabled warehouse and shut it down? What about a retail establishment?

Remember the square of the distant. Unless you are up load and personal you'll need a lot of power.

I am absolutely stomped on what this device is and exactly what it's ultimate purpose may be. Sorry.

#7

Eve

I find it strange that there has been no mention of the device's purpose, thus far.

Hope this helps Tina

RFID stands for Radio-Frequency IDentification. The acronym refers to small electronic devices that consist of a small chip and an antenna. The chip typically is capable of carrying 2, 000 bytes of data or less.

The RFID device serves the same purpose as a bar code or a magnetic strip on the back of a credit card or ATM card; it provides a unique identifier for that object. And, just as a bar code or magnetic strip must be scanned to get the information, the RFID device must be scanned to retrieve the identifying information.

I think this RFID jammer technology idea or technology came out because of the people's fear that RFID scanners could invade their rights to a private life when in fact it is not the case.

For ewample: RFID scanning and stickers have slowly been integrated to public utility vehicles all around the Philippines. The extension of scanning such vehicles are only limited to major public and city roads to monitor various traffic violations. Once a vehicle is out of the limited scanner radius of the RFID then one can be safe with his own private business.

Thank author of this post/comment"reply"

6 months ago I bought a mp3 player from Dixons and I went there last week and guess what the security alarm went off. I told them look I bought this mp3 player 6 months ago and this is my name and address and so on they checked with their database and did found that I bought the mp3 player and then they removed the tag thing. I thought they removed it when I bought the mp3 player. So what I am trying to say is if that happened to me I can just imagine what?s going to happen after RFID. (just watched the BBC click programme) I believed there should be some rules and regulation before it?s introduced to the public. I WILL NOT BUY ANYTHING WHICH TRACKS ME OR INVADES MY PRIVECY.
