Conyngham from the windy city - What is the best firewall to use these days? I am using the Windows firewall built into XP, but my Nortons security package offers theirs as the better alternative. Don't know which one to disable as I assume it is not a good idea to have 2 competing with each other on the same system. Comment #1 Kings from parallel street - I used ZoneAlarm, which was free, for years, but gradually found that it just wasn't doing the job. I now use the one built into my Norton Internet Security package and find it to does the job well. I don't enable the Windows one as there could be conflict. Comment #2 Jenna from A highly secure location - Kerio personal firewall was very good, but I don't know if it's free anymore. I read up in PC magazine the other day about a great free one but I've forgotten what it was called. I'll have to look it up but you could do a search on pcmag.com for free firewall and see if it comes up. Comment #3 Jess from New York - The built in Windows firewall is pretty decent as well. I can't speak for Vista, I hear that's very powerful but VERY annoying. I do think Windows is sufficient for incoming. It's the outgoing that is more of a concern but that's more of a luxury than a necessity at least for me. Comment #4 Keter from the garage door - I used the Windows firewall until I installed the Norton's Security Suite, and I then changed to Norton's firewall which is excellent. For a while I left both enabled until I read an article online that this could lead to potential conflicts. Zone Alarm used to be very effective in earlier iterations, but later versions seemed to cause endless hassles for some people I know. Each system is different though, so one shouldn't generalize. Comment #5 Elroy from New York - Here is my problem with Norton. New computer with windows xp, norton preinstalled. I didn't touch the configuration. Comment #6 fla_spa (118.136.70.60) - Hi all,
