U.S. Embassy Security I had the opportunity to visit a U.S. Embassy yesterday. The doors were heavy and the glass thick. The first metal detector was turn off or not working well as I passed through it without problem. The second one was a whole different story. The first time ever for a metal detector my glasses had to come off (not to mention my belt, etc). I almost thought I would have to strip down completely! Now as I was getting all my stuff back on, a lady with baby carriage passed through without problem (yes, the metal detector was set off), but the security guard obviously knew her and let her pass without delay or being checked. Now, I understand that this lady probably works at the Embassy and is trusted. That is not a problem. The problem is that although she is trusted, you never know when someone might be compromised. There are two possibilties, an internal compromise (ie: going "postal"), or an external compromise. That is someone bad threatening or taking advantage of the trusted person to bypass security. It could be an simple as someone hiding a weapon in the baby carriage unknown to the women or security! Yes, it would really suck taking aparat the baby carriage everytime this women comes to work. Yet, I think that is what security is all about. Either you have it, or you don't. |
