Anti-Spyware Software

I think it is deceptive for many of the anti spyware programs to tell you they found 25 zillion risks... when infact they are mostly just listings cookies that have no "spyware" risk to them.

Such reports make the anti-spyware software seem very important and make you feel you've been protected from some big bad evil.

However, I believe it only serves to stir up emotions and distract people from resolving the real risks.

You might check out a program called "spyware blaster" developed by Javacool software. It claimes to prevent a lot of spyware from ever even being installed. It seems to work pretty well for me anyway...

Thank author of this post/commentWell, I know when I run my spyware the report shows dangerous ones and mild ones. Usually the mild ones are just what you say cookes for downloaded sites that I use but the dangerous ones are data miners that worm their way into the registry.

These should be cleaned out right away. These are the ones that will cause you problems in the long run.

Yes some spyware programs give "alarming" reports but when you look deeper you can detect those that are important to remove and those that will really do no harm.

Perhaps you are not looking at the reports closely enough.

Thank author of this post/commentYou are so correct about the cookie thing. As soon as I delete my cookies and then run spybot or some other program, it comes up clean! I'm glad that I did not pay for it.

Thank author of this post/commentSpybot is a very good Anti-Spyware product. I use it on a regular basis, to check my system. If you clean up temporary internet files and cookies I think you will get a clean system.

Thank author of this post/commentI have heard great things about spybot, if I remember correctly that is what we had on our old laptop. Now we have a package deal we got from Best Buy that doesn't include spybot.

Thank author of this post/commentI had problems with spybot causing my system to hang running Windows XP. Strange thing is that it works perfectly on another machine under exactly the same OS. I had to uninstall it as it was giving endless hassles. Couldn't figure out why.

Thank author of this post/commentMy mother in law had the same problem and she had Spybot. We told her to uninstall it and then her system was running fine. I forget what she uses now but it gives her no problems. So I think that's weird that it works for some and then not others.

Thank author of this post/commentYour anti spyware software will tell you if it found something bad... but how to do you know if it missed something?
