NSA Phone Records

The problem here becomes on of quality vs quantity.

The U.S. Government seems intent on going for quantity of information rather than quality. It's easier to show you are protecting the public from terrorism if you are tracking one million leads than if you are tracking 5.

Thank author of this post/commentWhy do you say that? The U.S. Government can track as many or as few as are necessary to get all terrorists.

It has been proven that before 9/11 they had warnings about what was going on and what was going to happen. They chose to ignore it which is why there was such devastation.

There have been many incidents where they were able to prevent such acts by taking action with what knowledge they were given. However, you have to have intelligent people in the intelligence service in order to get the job done properly.

Thank author of this post/commentI agree. I certainly do not mind the government eaves dropping on my conversation. I don't have anything to hide. I would rather have that than another terrorist attack.

Thank author of this post/comment"I don't have anything to hide."

Have you removed all your curtains and window blinds from your house?

Will you share all your passwords with us here?

--

Of course the answer to those is no, because you are not comfortable being COMPLETETY open.

But it's ok to be completely open with the Government?

Will you let them put a video camera in your bedroom and bathroom, if they have a convincing arguement about that stopping terrorists?

--

How do you know the information they collect from you is secure? How do you know if they have a mechanism to completely expose you, someone from outside the goverment won't take advantage of it?

Thank author of this post/commentBig brother's method of spying is not very cool with me. Though we have nothing to hide, we still want a certain things to remain private.

Earth, the Universe
Thank author of this post/commentI never said I was okay with spying on the average Joe, but then I don't think the government is interested in the average Joe. What they trace and track are things related to terrorism mainly. That I don't mind at all.

If they want to put a camera in my bedroom, I have nothing to hide, I live alone but I doubt if that would ever happen because it would be a total waste of their time and government money.

If they found that I was a part of a terrorist group then I would deserve to be spied on and I hope they do it to everyone that they "think" may be involved. If they cover someone innocent to find 10 terrorists I think it is worth it.

It's like convicting and hanging one innocent person as opposed to 15 guilty ones. Unfortunately, it happens but to me the guilty ones are the ones that count and I'm sorry for the innocent one and there families but how do we know they are truly totally innocent.

Thank author of this post/commentThe system of courts and search warrants issues by an independent court is that keeps them from confusing average joe with terrorists.

When they are able to tap phones without those "burdensome" procedures then "average joe" becomes the terrorist whether by mistake, over zealous investigation or someone just having a grudge.

Without the checks and balances in place BEFORE the spying takes place you open the door to a cesspool of abuse.

Thank author of this post/commentI don’t think that it’s right that anybody can listen to our conversations. What I say I say to that person, nobody else. I think that this is a clear violation of our rights. If they want to listen for the safety of our country then only listen to the people that they have been tipped off on. Better yet put a 10, 000, 000 bounty out for information that leads to the arrest and convection of terrorist.

No, I don’t want another attack. But I feel if we start giving up our rights, will it stop there? They are trying to pass a law in California that would make it illegal to spank your children. Comeon where is it going to stop?

They know
Thank author of this post/commentElroy, You are very smart.

They do just go after ordinary people.

I have gone to some protests. I have been active against

the School of America in Georgia. It isn't like I am a terrorist. I have come home to my doors and windows being unlocked and open. There hasn't been anything very major taken from my house. Bills are gone and then returned to another place. Someone took all my stamps recently, postcard, airmail, everything. My security system gets shut off when I know I have turned it on. It has been several times over many years.

For a while a few years ago there was a box in my basement near the phone line then it disappeared six months later.

Whatever they are looking for they have not found. If they are trying to find something to put me in jail with they haven't been able to do that either. It is a big mystery why this is happening. I have changed the locks so many times. Many times this happens when the police are pulling me over or if I have to go to court. Keys are missing sometimes. I could go on and on. Maybe someone else can relate their experiences. I was trying to find a support group for people going through this.

The police don't seem to want to take fingerprints because nothing is really missing that is major. I just want it to stop.
