How does somebody find out if their phone is being tapped? In the movies i have often seen people open their phones up and finding little metallic buttons or something. But i dunno if that is true or not.

Well, I'm not sure that it would be that easy in the real world because if it was then people who had something to hide would be checking their phone before every telephone call they made.I would think that if people are tapping the phones nowadays that they have electronic devices that can be used from a distance without ever having to have been near your phone. I could be wrong but that's how I would expect it to be or else every crook or thief in the world would be double checking and triple checking their phones for any little thing that doesn't belong there.

I would love to know. When I talk on the phone to just one person, we get a lot of interferance. It is never like that when I talk to others, so I wonder if her phone is being tapped?

Just noticed how i said rapped instead of tapped. Ugh! So sorry about that guys. My typing sometimes hits the wrong letter :(Hey that's true, i didn't think about it but I recently watched a X-Files show [who else loves this show?!] and the government tapped the phone line from a telephone post down the street.

Whoops, I just noticed that i accidently commented [latest comment about the mistypo + x-files] as my new wife Zoya [just got married 6 months ago!]. We both share the same email account on this site but have seperate profiles. I thought I changed it to my profile when i got on but i must have messed it up somehow. Sorry about that... That was actually me :)

I think you used to could hear and echo or clicks. Now I am sure you can't tell anything. With advancement in technology, I doubt if we could tell if our lines were tapped.

LOL, yeah I think back in the old days you could probably hear a tapping noise but what with the way technology is I don't think the human ear would be able to detect any kind of wiretapping.

I think that my ex husband has somehow tapped my phone because he uses info about my mom's doctors appointments or appointments for my car at a mechanic to stalk and harass us. How can I find out?
Well Judy, I can tell you, you are not crazy because I know my ex is doing the same thing to me and my kids. I have a list a amile long of his invasion of our lives. He deserves to be in jail but he has the money and job so he harasses us. He works for IBM and has a bundle of techy contacts. I have had my computer totally hacked. When I reported it to the police, the investigators first question to me was, Do you have an ex. I said yes, he said it is not uncommon. I know my cell phone is being tapped and I know my home phone is and my most recent lead is that my ex has a PI following my every move. My bank account is being hacked and the list goes on. I have had my apartment invaded and made many complaints to the police but they do nothing. They almost act like I am nuts. I am being harassed. I complain to my lawyer and she says , you have no proof. The divorce has been going on two and half years and this guy should be in jail for how he treated me and my kids. and if anyone has any ideas of how to imporve my life from this invasive ex, I'd like to talk with you. The problem is I leave messages for people all the time and never get replies. I think they delete my message box or divert the calls or...who knows. We moms don;t have time to play these games. Our ex's unfortunaltely do.

I just want your guys' opinions, I'm being group-stalked, and I am very suspicious of my phones being tapped because no matter who I call my phone has all this static, tapping, clicking, and when I try to make phone calls it doesn't ring for ages and then it'll say you have to hang up and dial again, and then I do the same thing again and it's fine. Sometimes it takes like 5 minutes for the phone to ring. Someone give me an answer please! Thanks

I was just wondering! I am in a custody battle regarding my children with cps. We have been hearing alot of clicks and echoing on our home phone. Do you think that they would tapped the phones around my home in order to get more information on my family?
Hello.Sometimes when I am on the phone, I hear a clicking noise. Sounds like someone tapping in through the receiver. Is that possible? How do I find out who it is? Thank you. Sheryl
Comment #14 Martin from Kansas -
What does clicking have to do with wiretapping?
I totally agree with all of you guys comments here on this website. Just like Elayna I too am being group stalked and feel that there are private investigators watching my every move. No matter where I go I know I am being watched, but they are so slick with it you can't prove it to no one. I have contacted the police and they said the same thing to me that I was delusional. By the way I know my cell phone and home phone is being tapped also because these people know too much about me. They know my every move. If any of you guys can help me please help because this is no way to live. Thanks!

You know your phone is being tapped if you are paranoid. The bottom line is you never know if it is being tapped. If you are having a sensitive conversation you should assume it is being monitored.

Can the cops (or anyone) tap a cell phone or just land lines?
Comment #18 George from Montana -
Technologically they can tap any line... cell, voip, telephone, etc...Legally, it depends on the agency, the State, the Crime being investigated and whether a judge will issue a warrant or not.

Wiretapping or wire tapped phone lines, this all thing that threats our security and privacy.. How do we know if our unit is being tapped?# Your secrets are out. (unless you've told someone) #You hear strange noises, like clicking, popping, static and humming. #Your phone makes noise on its own. #Your radio has strange interference. #Your environment just seems different. #Your outside phone box has extra hardware. I suggest that delicate information to be discussed personally not by the phone to avoid id theft.

Hey, just for all you amateurs, call this number, just replace the x's with ur area codes. xxx.xxx.1111. There will be a flatline sound, X-( dead person sound at the hospital. LOL. Anyways if it is constant, u are not tapped, if you are tapped, it will skip once, or like a 1 second pause in the constant flatline sound.(Usually after 2-3 seconds after u being to hear the noise.) - DJGlaze Black Hat.

I almost died laughing! Such silly things for the silly paranoid people!

"Cell Phone Tappping"
I think my phone is being tapped because someone has been calling my girlfriend for the last several months spreading rumors about me to her. saying that i have been cheating on my gf with this person that keeps calling my gf. My girlfriend recently got a new number and the phone calls are still coming. the person knows everything i do at school and everything i tell my girlfriend and they know who i hang out with. so does anyone else think this sounds like im being tapped and if anyone knows how i can find out who did it that would be a lot of help. Thanks =)

"Phone Tapping"
It is extremely difficult to detect anyone tapping your phone using present technology. As a matter of practice, I have an audicy tap on my line that records incoming calls. I assure you that all recordings are seemless and it is impossible for callers to distinguish the difference from a normal phone call - I have tested the system many times myself. Given the advancements and technology, I do not doubt that the quality of similar "man in the middle taps" are equally unnoticeable. If the phone is being tapped by law enforcement at the exchange, you would never know - refer to phone phreaking: IE Kevin Mitnik. Furthermore, if you visit any spy site on the net you will quickly discover software that you can use to tap cell phones. This software not only works to record phone conversations, it also allows you to hear from the phone's microphone and see from the phone's camera even when the phone is off - the only way to circumvent the possibility is to remove the battery. Similarly, the only way you can detect an RF tap is to tune into the the frequency the conversation is being broadcast on. Despite these advances however, some people still resort to using old technology like beige boxing to accomplish the task. If this is the case, one might hear a click on the line as if someone is picking up an extension. I would not get paranoid over hearing such a noise however. I would simply adopt a policy to never speak of anything I don't want known publicly. Instead, use a random payphone. A landline is much more secure and more difficult to tap because they can't know Which phone you will choose to use. The tap must therefore be installed on the phone you are going to call and not the phone you are calling from. If you wish to know more about the subject of phone tapping or phone phreaking, there are countless resources on the net.
